Post

Dear Didion Families,

For those of you who do not know me, I am James Eder, the principal of Genevieve Didion TK-8 school . I want to warmly welcome back all of our returning students and families! And I want to especially welcome our brand new Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students and families! As we embark on yet another AMAZING school year, I want our students and families to know that our entire staff is committed to being there for you and supporting you every step of the way.

Our staff is working hard in preparation for the  first day of school on Thursday, August 31st. This email will provide you with some important information and reminders for the start of school. You can expect to receive more communication from me in the days leading up to August 31st with even more updates and information.

DIDION WEBSITE

Please be sure to bookmark the Didion website, which is full of important information and resources. On our website, you’ll find our school calendar, an archive of all of Mr. Eder’s messages throughout the year, information about our Parent Teacher Association, and so much more.

MAIN OFFICE AND NEIGHBORHOOD REGISTRATION

The main office is currently open from 8:00am to 2:00pm until the start of school. New families who have moved into the Didion attendance boundary may register directly in our office until Monday, September 11th. After that date, families must register at the District Enrollment Center

DIDION BELL SCHEDULE AND SCUSD SCHOOL ATTENDANCE CALENDAR

Didion’s bell schedule is posted and includes the daily schedule, including minimum day schedules, for each of our various grade levels. The 2023-2024 SCUSD academic calendars include school holidays and the end of each grading period.

SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS

Classroom supply lists are posted on our website for Kindergarten through middle school.

CLASS LISTS

Class lists have been finalized, but the administrative scheduling of students into our online student information system will be in progress and on-going until August 28th. Starting on August 28th, class lists and middle school student schedules will be officially posted in Infinite Campus, on Clever, and in the main display case in front of the school. Please do not reach out to make class change requests now or at that time.

Please note that changes may occur to class lists after school starts due to any leveling or “concapping” that will need to happen in over-enrolled classes. In over-enrolled classes, the students who were the latest to register will be offered an enrollment at another district school, usually during the third week of September — this is the “concap” process. When class lists are posted, all registered students will be listed, including students in over-enrolled classes who were the latest to register and who are subject to concapping. The class size limit in TK-3rd grade is 24 students, and in 4th-6th grade is 33 students. For students who are not impacted by concapping or leveling, class lists are final.

TK ORIENTATION, KINDER ORIENTATION, AND MIDDLE SCHOOL WELCOME

Our TK and kindergarten teachers are in the process of making contact with all of their families to invite them to their respective orientations (Kinder on 8/28 and TK on 8/29). If your child is a new 23-24 TK student or kindergartener and you do not receive information about your orientation by 8/23, please contact the main office.

All of our middle schoolers will engage in a series of welcome and orientation activities during their 1st period advisory class for the first few days of school. On the first day of school, 7th and 8th graders should report to their advisory classes, which will be posted with the class lists in the glass display case and on the Didion Website on 8/28.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL DOUGHNUTS AND COFFEE

Don’t miss out on doughnuts and coffee after you drop off your students on the first day of school! Catch up with friends, meet other families, and chat with Mr. Eder while learning about our Didion PTA’s plans for this school year. The doughnuts and coffee will be set up under the shade structure on campus for parents to enjoy after Mr. Eder’s first day blacktop announcements.

DIDION GEAR AND FIRST SPIRIT DAY (9/1)

The online Didion gear store is live, and there is still time to order and receive items before the first day of school! Friday, September 1st, will be a Didion gear/colors Spirit Day! So get your order in now so that your student can rock some new swag on our first spirit day of the year!
