Walk to School Day (click for more info)
Wednesday October 10th
This annual school event encourages families to enjoy a healthy lifestyle, improve air quality and the environment by replacing car trips, and create safer routes for walking and biking (click here for Walk to School Day flyer).
International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, it has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico – participate every October.
There will be “walking school buses” on the morning of the event. The “walking bus stops” will be located at 5 different locations in the neighborhood (click here for Walk to School Day Map):
Frates & Park Riviera (near Riverside) at 7:40 am
Harmon & Pocket Road at 7:40 am
Surfside & Benham at 7:45 am
Lewis Park Playground at 7:45 am
North Point & Grangers Dairy at 7:45 am
Pick the walking bus stop closest to your home and drop off your children with the parent volunteers at the designated time. If you would like to help as a “bus stop” volunteer or have any questions, please contact the event Chair Stephanie Seelig. More information, as well as a map of “walking bus stops” can be found in the attached event flyer
